Silas Notes

Devotionals 3/26/07

Posted by Katy on March 26, 2007

This is a reading sometimes used for Passion Sunday, from the ESV translation.

“The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of those who are taught,
that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary.
Morning by morning he awakens;
he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.
The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious;
I turned not backward.
I gave my back to those who strike,
and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard;
I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting.

But the Lord GOD helps me;
therefore I have not been disgraced;
therefore I have set my face like a flint,
and I know that I shall not be put to shame.
He who vindicates me is near.
Who will contend with me?
Let us stand up together.
Who is my adversary?
Let him come near to me.
Behold, the Lord GOD helps me;
who will declare me guilty?”

Christians + YouTube = GodTube

Posted by Katy on March 23, 2007

That’s right, there is a Christian version of YouTube! GodTube is an online collection of videos honoring God. It’s actually in Beta right now and working very well!

Check out the Most Viewed page for some popular videos, including the Mac vs. PC parody series - which has “Christ-follower” talking with “Christian” about how to live a true Christian life. If you have a good sense of humor I highly recommend Baby Got Bible.

Wikia vs Google?

The semi-predicted maybe-potenial fall of the Google empire
Posted by Katy on March 21, 2007

The April issue of Fast Company has a feature article by Alan Deutschman about Jimmy Wales (founder of Wikipedia) and his new idea to build a search engine to rival Google. This search engine is definitely several years down the road though. Read more >>

Monkey + Robot = Monkbot (or Cybonky)

Posted by David on March 21, 2007

Okay, I admit it…  This is a stretch.  But I could not pass up the opportunity to bring to your attention one of todays great marvels of technology.  Please, take a moment to appreciate the beauty of technology, as featured in this Discovery Channel documentary:

If scientists can do this with a monkey, just think of the possibilities of what Silas Partners can do with your website.

“Now the tax collectors and ’sinners’ were all gathering around to hear him. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, ‘This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.’ Then Jesus told them this parable: ‘Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. The he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.” I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.’ ”

Devotionals 3/12/07

Posted by Katy on March 12, 2007

“From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting thier trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

2 Corinthians 5:16-21 - English Standard Version

Posted by Jeff on March 6, 2007

At some point in your career in the internet services/consulting arena you have probably had to write or edit a case study. We create case studies for many different reasons, but mostly to illustrate work done for a client that will help sell similar services to more clients. We also produce case studies as a means to establish thought leadership and to prove strategic thinking. Toot-toot goes your own horn.

Psalm 63:1-8

“O God, You are my God. I will look for you with all my heart and strength. My soul is thirsty for You. My flesh is weak and wanting You in a dry and tired land where there is no water. So I have seen You in the holy place. And I have seen Your power and Your shining-greatness. My lips will praise You because Your loving-kindness is better than life. So I will give honor to You as long as I live. I will lift up my hands in Your name. My sould will be filled as with rich foods. And my mouth praises You with lips of joy.

On my bed I remember You. I think of You through the hours of the night. For You have been my help. And I sing for joy in the shadow of Your wings. My soul holds on to You. Your right hand holds me up.”

Ps 63:1-8 (New Life Version)

Coast to Coast Merger Tour

Posted by Jeff on March 5, 2007

After a great week at NRB 2007 in Orlando, Florida the Silas and Trinet Teams are heading to the West Coast for the CMA 2007 Palm Springs conference. This is a great opportunity to meet the newly merged Silas and Trinet teams. We have a booth this year in the exhibit hall #309. Stop by our booth and chat with staff from both coasts and pick up some new white papers and case studies. Alistar Begg from Truth for Life - and Parkside Church - both Silas Partners clients - will be leading the daily devotionals, so you don’t want to miss that. Our very own Fedor attended Parkside and is a big fan of Alistair Beggs and highly recommends seeing him. See you in a few weeks in the desert!

Devotionals 2/26/07

Posted by Katy on February 26, 2007

This week was a Lent reading, from Luke’s gospel.

“At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, ‘Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.’

He replied, ‘Go tell that fox, “I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.” In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day - for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem! O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” ‘ ”
Luke 13:31-35 (New International Version)
