Flash Player gets HD Support

Full screen HD with no waiting
Posted by Jacob on August 21, 2007

Later today Adobe will release a new version of the Flash player with H.264 support. That means that churches and ministries have a new option for delivering video online.

For many of you H.264 may mean nothing, it did to me up until about two years ago. I still don’t know all the ins and outs, but H.264 is an encoding standard, just like MP3 is an encoding standard. And just like MP3 standardized the way music was encoded and distributed electronically, H.264 is quickly coming the de-facto standard for digital video.

With Flash player natively supporting this codec, it will save your ministry the step of encoding to Flash video. It will also open up the possibility of full-screen high definition video on the web.

Many churches and ministries may not have the capabilities to produce HD content, but it’s nice to know that the possibility is there.

If you are still scratching your head as to why this matters, drop me a line. After our conversation, hopefully you’ll be as excited as I am.

  1. this was a must after Microsoft’s anouncement to ship Silverlight. Adobe was forced to change strategy regarding web interactivity based on video.

Take a look at the new Silverlight crossbrowser platform that integrates with any web application including all the open source tecnologies like PHP
