Subtle Touch in Google Reader

Great design in a very small (545 bytes) package
Posted by Jacob on May 22, 2007

I use Google Reader to read my RSS feeds. I’m subscribed to 173 feeds and in the past thirty days I’ve read scanned 7,750 items; I’ve probably read more like 6,000 items or about 200 items per day.

However, this post is not about my prolific reading, it’s about a very small detail on the Google Reader design, here is a picture of the top of Google Reader’s interface.

Notice anything? There is a very slight drop shadow at the top of the page that is a shadow of the toolbar of my browser. That actual image is just a very small repeated .png file. This is a great example of how just a few seconds of extra thought present a more finished look.

  1. That drop-shadow is about to convince me to switch from Bloglines….
