SPAM Wins, Pappa Needs a Brand New Bag
ARS Technica reports that spam will overtake non-spam or “real” email this year. This is bad news. How about that for in depth analysis!
Ok why is it bad news? Not so much because we’ll all be getting more spam. The real issue is people are starting turn away from email:
Users have been migrating to instant messaging (IM) and voice chat (using cheap phone calls or free VoIP clients like Skype) for some time, and e-mail appears to be losing a bit of its luster as spam makes it increasingly unwieldy for business use.
That means that if your online communication is built solely around email you need to start planning to use other mediums now, before the tipping point when email is used by the few.
Right now email is the Internet to many people; they interact with websites and other services via their email, however; this number is shrinking. I don’t think email is going to be extinct, but churches and ministries who depend on it for all of their online communication will see diminishing returns.
