Silas Notes

Setting up a booth can be shocking.

Or, another reason this aircast is annoying me so much.

(Saturday Afternoon) I made it back to the hospitality suite after my Creating an Integrated Web Strategy to find Fedor and Silas Man (and everyone else.) We needed to get the booth set up in the few hours I had available before my session prep with the panel for the ‘Is your site a bust or a must; website critiques‘ or something like that. Our booth location is great on the exhibit hall floor (I believe it is 1131 for those of you reading this while at NRB…please stop by and Read more >>

the people are coming!

Posted by Fedor on February 18, 2007

It’s about 1:00 PM now here at NRB.  This morning was a good church service with Michael Easley.  He spoke on Hebrews 12:     .  It was good to be in a setting with so many people from different denominations and areas of the country.  And, thankfully - there was a Starbucks!  Yesterday was pretty busy with meetings for a lot of our staff and the opportunity to see so many of our clients that I’ve only heard on the phone or heard about from my co-workers.  Of course, it’s always a blessing to see Bob and Amy from Truth For Life.  As I’m typing this in our booth that opened a little over an hour ago, it’s good to see people talking with each other.  It’s good to see ADRA directly across from us.  Our new co-workers from Trinet are a few rows away from us, and we are excited about this opportunity and the time that we get to share with them here at NRB.  It’s time to meet with some new people - and where is Silas Man you may be wondering.  He is actually taking a nap for now - and Mary, my new co-worker has said she really wants to take Silas Man home with her.  So, I’m on the look out - she may try to kidnap him after his press conference later on today!

Day One – Hospitality ‘suite’ and the first educational session.

Posted by Jeff on February 18, 2007

We got to the Orlando Convention Center pretty early to get to the hospitality suite, and for me to meet, in person finally, Todd Baker from Masterworks who I was co-presenting with at the first educational session. Like all convention centers, this one is pretty huge and even before we made it to the suite I was tired. Many other conventions going on at the same time. Some Tae Kwon Do thing, a “Magical Classic” (no idea what this is,) some Monster Truck thing, and a few thousand little Goth kids running around in Hall C at MegaCon (I think some online gamer/sci-fi/anime thing.)

Seven people, 8 bags, 7 laptops, two flights, 3 boxes, 2 colds.

The morning prior to our departure from the Silas Partners office wasn’t the flurry of activity I was told it had been in the past. Only one minor setback; the invitations for the Silas/Trinet Merger Meet and Greet that were to be printed on business cardstock gave the printer some problems. But, that was nothing Katy couldn’t fix with a screwdriver and some patience. I never new a printer could be such a complex piece of machinery with so many teeny tiny springs – it’s like a huge watch that makes color copies.

To Orlando We Go!

Posted by Fedor on February 16, 2007

Duncan and Silas Man had some good times while on the plane.  It was cool to hear how Duncan encouraged Silas Man - this was his first NRB Convention.  Silas Man did get some rest on the flight and listened to his iPod.  I think I heard him singing  the “Technology Song” that Kip sang in Napoleon Dynamite.  He’s hilarious!

Layovers

Posted by Fedor on February 16, 2007

I love being on the plane!  Although I must say that I like flying solo - I go just as fast as a plane :)  It was fun sitting next to Duncan - although he did take a nap and was trying to read a lot of documents on our flight.

Confessions of a Non-Techie - Part 5

Posted by Katy on February 16, 2007

Welcome back to the final chapter!

So, why do I work with a company that both uses technology and helps others to use it too? Because we do it well. Technology serves a fantastic purpose when pointed in the right direction. I love our work and our client’s work because ultimately it’s doing God’s work. Scripture teaches us to be good stewards – and I think that applies to all aspects of life. Read more >>

Amazing Grace Screening at NRB

Posted by michael on February 15, 2007

A lot of anticipation is surrounding the movie ‘Amazing Grace’ and I am one individual that is curious to know whether the movie warrents the buzz. At NRB this year, they will be screening the movie on Sunday, Feb 18th at 8pm. I will not be able to see it but if you do go OR you’ve seen the movie elsewhere - let us know what you thought about the movie. Give us a ranking between 1 and 5 (5 being bestest) and lots of adjectives.

For those who are wondering what the blue-hairs-on-scooters i’m talking about: ” it is an epic story of abiding faith and uncommon courage, William Wilberforce and a community of abolitionists awaken the conscience of a nation, taking on the most powerful interests of their day to end the British slave trade. It is the true story of a reluctant leader called to do the impossible and the loyal friends who risk everything to join him.”
