Convio buys Get Active

Posted by Jacob on January 18, 2007

Well this is big, you can read the official word from Convio on their site. It seems that Convio gets GetActive’s advocacy platform, content management system and GetActive’s DC based services operation.

How this will affect the customers that Silas Partners works with that use Convio is yet to be seen. Early thought on the matter is that it is going to look more like GetActive’s tools being integrated into Convio than the other way around. In any case this is going to take time, a lot of time.

It’s not all happiness out there, Democracy in Action lays out a number of possible worries one might have if they were a GetActive customer. It is important to note Democracy in Action is a direct Convio competitor, so keep that in mind as you read.

Change is a constant in this business, so while I’m not necessarily looking forward to learning a new CMS and advocacy platform, I think over time it will be beneficial to the clients I help to serve, which as Martha Stewart would say, is a good thing.

  1. Kintera was quick to respond on this.

Has the proposed merger of Convio and GetActive raised uncertainty at your nonprofit – creating concern about the integration of technology platforms, culture, and which platform survives?

They are offering a specific “replacement program” for people who are uncertain. Hopefully this will spark innovation on all sides not just the spreading of FUD
