Monday Morning Devotionals
Monday morning devotionals have been a tradition at Silas Partners since before we were even Silas Partners. It started back in the day when we were LifeAudio, and Duncan and Sebastian started their week with an hour devoted to the Lord. Through the years there have been several phases, ranging from general prayer meetings, to reading Christian living books, to giving testimonies. Nowadays we have a Devotional Committee, and our Monday Morning Devotionals are in the form of Bible study, specifically the Lumko Study method.
Lumko is a South African method of bible study in several parts.
- Read the passage out loud.
- Ask “what word or phrase speaks to you?” We spend a minute or two just saying words from the passage that are meaningful to us.
- Read the passage again. (We read the same passage, but in a different translation.)
- We then spend a few minutes discussing “what we’ve heard in our hearts.” That is, what reflections we have, things we noticed, or other comments.
- Read the passage a final time. (Again, same passage, with a third translation.)
- Lastly, we discuss how God is calling us to change.
After studying the scripture, we’ll write down personal prayer requests, and trade with someone so everyone is praying for one other during the week. Then we’ll all share company prayers, and general larger-scale prayer requests. I personally enjoy starting my week off this way, it serves to remind us why we’re all here, and helps us focus on the true mission of our work.
This Monday (10/23) we read Isaiah 52:7-10, this is the New International Version translation:
“How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”
Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices;
together they shout for joy.
When the Lord returns to Zion,
they will see it with their own eyes.
Burst into songs of joy together,
you ruins of Jerusalem,
for the LORD has comforted his people,
he has redeemed Jesusalem.
The LORD will lay bare his holy arm
in the sight of all the nations,
and all the ends of the earth will see
the salvation of our God.” (NIV)
